Heavy Gustav Railway Gun WW2 3846 Pieces 3 Soldiers
Schwerer Gustav (English: Heavy Gustav) was a German 80-cm (31.5 in) railway gun. It was developed in the late 1930s as siege artillery for the explicit purpose of destroying the main forts of the French Maginot Line. The fully assembled gun weighed nearly 1,350 tonnes and could fire shells weighing 7t to a range of 47 km (29 mi).

ok so im a kid that likes war and i was looking for this but there is one problum thats a lot of money now i know this is a lot of lego for a company to buy and i fully understand but i really want this and i have a shelf for all the lego sets that ive got from the past years and i love lego so to have that thing at the top that will look pretty cool so i love the product but im kinda scared to buy this thing because i think there will be a missing pice or a missing bag and i dont want that to happen so if theres a sale going on im hopeing my paraents will buy it for me.
This set looks so freaking awesome !!! I am totally going to buy it. look's so cool.
Hello, I haven't exactly bought the set, but I was thinking if you could add a separate set that is part of this set? Something like a train to pull the artillery cannon,
So upon receiving the box I was thinking "no way can 4000 pieces fit in this box". Well they did, bag after bag of legos sprawled out over my 6-foot table. This set took me a sold 4 days of at least 30 hours if not more but it was so worth it. You can tell the pieces aren't of the highest quality, so for the smaller pieces, be gentle and for the big pieces, you really have to push to get the legos together. Upon completion I am still in awe of not only how freaking awesome this thing is, but how massive it is. 100% recommend, and definitely gonna buy more sets.
Where to begin? I purchased this set not really knowing what to expect as it was my first purchase from the Brick Armory. I thought that the Schwerer Gustav would fit right in with the other sets I have on display which are also World War II themed but of another brand. The set took about 3-4 days to ship and arrived 3 or so days after that. When I opened it, I was a little dismayed to find out it was a Chinese brand called Kazi. I had never heard of them before and wasn't sure what to expect as far as quality goes. The individual bags were all bundled up into a larger bag. No issues with shipping or handling.
Ultimately, it turned out this set was shipped to me missing a bag of pieces. I brought it to the attention of Brick Armory and after I sent them some photos showing what was missing, they promptly sent me another set which did have the missing bag. I want to stress that Brick Armory customer support was top notch and thank them again for handling the situation so well.
Piece Quality (7/10):
If LEGO is 10/10, I give these a 7. One can see where the molds are injected on most pieces and I did get a warped piece as well, but 1 out of approximately 3500 isn't bad. The tolerances also aren't as tight as LEGO either. Everything fits together and everything sticks as it should, but sometimes it requires more pressure with some pieces than others. The piece quality did not affect any part of building this set though so they get the job done.
Construction Quality (3/10): Sometimes a LEGO set will really impress me with the ingenuity of what LEGO designers are able to do with the pieces at their disposal. This set was honestly quite the opposite. The build is generally pretty straight-forward but there are a lot of questionable design decisions that make the set very frustrating to build. There are many sections that are extremely fragile and not properly reinforced to make sure they don't fall apart as you are trying to stick them to other sections that are also fragile and will fall apart. There are sections that also do not fit as they are supposed to due to the tolerances. The whole rear deck is attached to the body of the gun at only 2 sections and I barely got it to fit on by squeezing together the train car as tightly as I could. There is a small section that is supposed to keep the gun from going below 0 degrees and forget it, that's impossible to attach as the instructions direct because the left and right gun mounts are too far apart. And speaking of the gun, they used two 12" technic axles to try and reinforce it but it still sags. Good luck getting anything on those rods as they bend and wobble everywhere because a piece fits too tightly. I actually broke out the WD-40 at one point.
Fun to Build? (Not for me it wasn't.)
I did not really enjoy putting together this set. It is only partly the set's fault. It tended to be very repetitive since most things are symmetrical so it will have you build the same thing 2-4 times. I just built all the copies at once. I can't fault the set for that. Other sections were downright frustrating because they were poorly designed as described above. As I tried to get the whole thing together I had a whole section kind of collapse into oblivion because it wasn't reinforced. I was not happy to go back and rebuild it.
Display Factor: (9/10)
When all is said and done, it looks really nice. The sagging gun definitely loses a point here. I am going to try to find something made of metal that might be able to keep it straight.
TLDR: Would I recommend it?
If I had known before I bought it what I know now after building it, I still would have purchased it. For display purposes, it gets the job done and the scale is impressive.
The good part about this purchase is that the box of bricks arrived much earlier than anticipated. We received the item in one week's time instead of the 3-4 weeks as stated when we placed the order.
However, there were some disappointing issues with this product. First, there were 2 missing parts and one of them is a custom piece which we cannot really replace with whatever lego parts we have. But given the number of bricks involved for this item (3846 pieces/parts), just having two missing pieces is not too bad.
Next, the box at the back with windows (below the main deck) was just impossible to connect with the main body of the Gustav. The connection points were just too weak to hold the box in place. We ended up doing away with the box, not fixing it in.
Another issue we faced is the long gun not staying straight. It flexes a lot due to the many joins/connection points. So our gun is pointing down instead of pointing proudly straight ahead. We recommend instead of having many short pieces for the guns, have more long pieces to minimise the number of joins/connection points so that the gun will not flex so much.
Another problem is that the bricks/pieces fall off very easily. Everytime we touched the Gustav, something will fall off and while fixing the fallen piece, another part will definitely fall off. It is impossible to move the Gustav without it breaking apart. We are so afraid to touch the finished Gustav. It will be impossible to clean it!!
Overall, it looks quite impressive and it is a big item. We just wish the gun can hold up straight and we will be quite happy with it.
I got my set but the box was busted there was no instructions and the bags with the peices was torn open
